Antonio’s pizza, Amherst

Raise you hand if you have a friend that went to UMASS Amherst and raves about how good Antonio’s pizza is. I’ve been hearing about this pizzeria for ages. I took it with a grain of salt, after all, how developed are the tastes of an undergrad? Plus, never underestimate the value of nostalgia;  I mean it’s unlikely that Tom’s Diner (6 blocks away from Columbia) has the best milkshakes on earth, but at 2 in the morning, there was nothing better than a Broadway (coffee and chocolate) shake with an order of fries. I still crave it every once in a while.
I was in the Amherst area today and stopped by to try this famed pizza. I got a slice of cheese and a slice of the day’s special: White pizza with olives, artichokes, feta and basil. The shop is tiny, but a dizzying array of varieties available by the slice. You can see them on all display as you try to decide what to order. I saw a chicken and avocado pizza that looked fascinating.
They reheated my pizza and I took it to go, so I could eat outside. The pizza was delicious! The crust was excellent and the sauce flavorful. I loved the special slice – so much deliciousness on one triangle of food. The cheese was $2 and the special was pricier at $3.40. I will definitely stop by again, the chicken and avocado pizza is calling.
