I’m doing my best to cover all the new restaurants in Kendall Square for you. This weekend, Steve and I hit Kika Tapas. It’s a styling restaurant with modern graphic décor. I found it too trendy; it’s nowhere near as charming as Dali. But, on to the food, we opted for 6 tapas to share:
Basque Fries: made inedible with far too much salty. We didn’t finish them, and since when do I not finish my fries?!
Broccoli & Cauliflower Fritters: Steve’s favorite dish of the evening, but I felt it was a touch too doughy.
Fried Calamari – No complaints; it was a solid, decent calamari.
Beef & Chicken Empanadas – I think the exterior was not crispy or flaky enough.
Roast Duck with Berry Sauce – I liked the berry sauce, Steve did not.
Sizzling Garlic Shrimp – The ubiquitous garlic shrimp. This dish needed salt, so I started brushing the salt off the fries on to the squid.
Our service was fine, and Steve enjoyed his glass of wine. The tapas range from $5 - $10. I thought the prices were on the high side, but generally small plates usually are. If you are in Kendall Square, hit Area Four or Hungry Mother instead.
