Emilio’s Homemade Italian Subs and Dinners, Watertown

Emilio’s is a no frills, mom and pop sub shop. There are only 4 sticky tables on a worn linoleum tiled floor. But none of this would matter if the subs were as good as the Boson Phoenix review promised. They advertise that the meatballs and eggplant parm are homemade, so that what my friend Elizabeth and I shared. The subs were enormous. The meatball sub ($6.75) contained four large tender tasty orbs of meat, drenched in homemade sauce. The eggplant sub ($7.50) had layers of soft breaded eggplant stuffed in a cottony sub roll. Elizabeth was not impressed; I think she wanted more crispy texture on the eggplant. I was fine with that; my problem was the bread. The rolls were oversized and desperately needed to be toasted. I take responsibility, I should have asked. I will next time.
