Fuji, Cambridge

Fuji is a local mini chain (there are 7 of them in the Boston area) of Japanese restaurants and their newest location is in Kendall Square. The space is modern and sleek; it is divided in to two areas - a moderate sized sushi bar and a larger dining room. Carol and I had no problem getting a table on a weekday night. The parking is extremely difficult, but they do offer valet.

We shared the salt & pepper calamari ($10) to start. The tempura batter was slightly too thick and the portion was small. Most likely, it was from frozen. There was a nice kick from the hot pepper.

Next was sushi boat 1 ($40) which included: sashimi (4 pieces), nigiri (4 pieces) and maki (16 pieces of spicy tuna, tempura, and negihama). The sashimi was cut appallingly thick. The rolls were on par with Whole Foods sushi, double the price. It does not come with rice or miso soup.

Our waitress was disinterested and had to be flagged down for ordering, water and the bill. The prices are high, and portions are small. Needless to say, I will not be back.
