Cutty’s, Brookline Village

I seldom re-blog about places I’ve been but Steve and I went to Cutty’s in Brookline Village for lunch on Saturday and our sandwiches were outstanding enough to merit a second post.

When I was in Philly, I fell in love with a roast pork, provolone and broccoli rabe sub at Tommy DiNic’s in the Reading terminal market. I learned that Cutty’s also serves a roast pork, provolone and broccoli rabe sandwich, but it is only available on Saturdays. So, when Steve asked if there was anywhere in particular I wanted to go for lunch, I suggested Cutty’s.

The line was out the door when we arrived at 1:30pm, but it moved quickly and we were able to snag a table before our sandwiches were ready. I loved my sandwich – I dare say it was superior to Tommy DiNic’s, as the ingredients were of a higher quality, especially the excellent sesame seed roll from Iggy’s. Steve got their other Saturday-only special – slow-roasted pork, pickled fennel and roasted garlic on a sesame seed roll. He loved it, as well. I thought the crunch and tang of the pickled fennel was a nice compliment to the savory pork. We also ordered a bag of their homemade potato chips. They are sliced razor thin and are one shade away from brunt. I liked the texture, but would like them less well done.


I’m really happy I do not need to head back to Philly just to enjoy this sandwich again. Cutty’s has a fried chicken sandwich that is a Sunday-only special. I think I will be making another special trip to Brookline Village soon.
