We had lunch at Toraya last week upon my friend Richard’s recommendation (you know, “credit-stealing” Richard J ). Many people on chow.com feel that the quality of sushi there is just as good as Oishii, but much more affordable and easier to get in to. R and I shared a maki and nigiri combo and the sashimi plate. We also ordered some extra unagi (eel) for R, as it is his favorite.
The fish was fresh and the quality was good, but I wasn’t blown away. Perhaps my expectations were too high, the fish is definitely better than average sushi places, but I think that Oishii and
