R is pretty good when it comes to food. He likes generally everything and is adventurous enough to try stuff that I love, but that most people are grossed out about (liver, tripe, sweetbreads and other assorted innards). The one thing he does not like is Mexican food, or more specifically, Tex-Mex. He feels that it’s usually too greasy (although I’ve seen the man devour cheese fries without any problem).
The result is that I rarely have Mexican food, especially if you don’t count the burritos from Whole Foods (I don’t). So, it was a nice change of pace when I went to Taco Loco for lunch on Friday with some co-workers.
The space is tiny; a crowded counter with 7 people behind it, elbowing each other as they put the orders together. The line was out the door, but it moved quickly. There’s only counter seating, so take-out is the safer bet. I shared a steak burrito, a cheese pupusa and a side of Guacamole with my friend Carol. The whole order was $8 bucks. The burrito was enormous, plenty for the two of us. The steak was tender and flavorful and the other ingredients were fresh and vibrant. It was an excellent burrito. The pupusa was good, but not great. I thought the dough was a little too doughy. Allison had a quesadilla, which was also huge. I didn’t try it, but she reported that it was good and she really liked it.
Taco loco is an excellent spot to grab a quick, cheap and satisfying meal. Check it out if you are in
