R and I were hankering for a little dessert on our way home from Brian and Mj’s. We were debating whether or not to head in to Cambridge for some ice cream when I noticed Café Toscana, tucked into the strip mall across the intersection. Someone once told me that they had an excellent tiramisu there, so we decided to check it out. We pulled up and there were 6 older Italian men outside smoking and talking, inside there was another group of Italian man sipping espresso and arguing. It felt strangely authentic, despite the Jenny Craig and the Subway that flanks Café Toscana on either side. Unfortunately, the desserts didn’t live up. We got the tiramisu, which was okay, but not as good as my recipe, and a lobster tail. The lobster tail was a huge pastry, almost a foot in length, but the dough teeth breakingly hard instead of flaky and tender and the filling was thick and gluey.
