We had an excellent brunch with Richard and his friend at Highland Kitchen on Sunday. R and I have eaten there before for dinner; which we enjoyed and I’ve heard good things about their brunch. I had the shrimp and grits which were delicious; creamy grits with tender shrimp, chunks of bacon and sautéed mushrooms and collards. R had biscuits and gravy with 2 sunny side up eggs. Richard’s smoked trout and bacon hash was also excellent. I didn’t taste the veggie omelet, but there were appreciative sounds in that direction. We also had an order of the buttermilk pancakes for the table (I know, 4 people + 5 entrees = oink oink). The pancakes were surprisingly good. R still believes that town diner has the ultimate pancake, but these were fluffy and tender with tasty bourbon maple syrup.
Our service was good and at 1pm on Sunday, there was no wait. I think that there is sometimes live jazz, but there wasn’t any this morning.
Highland Kitchen is definitely worth checking out for brunch.
