I read the Boston Phoenix review at 3pm, and by 5:15pm I had a large pepperoni and mushroom pizza in my hands. I was on my way to see the Complete Works of Shakespeare (abridged) at the Publick Theater, and for whatever reason, pizza and outdoor summer theater seems like a perfect pairing.
Stella’s is a small pizza and sub shop, the kind that every town has. My fried John, a Watertown native, says that Stella’s makes the best pizza in town, and he was right, it’s quite good. The large is 18 inches and barely fits in the pizza box. The crust is nice and thin. I would have preferred a crisper crust, but I think that’s more the fault of the 20 minute car ride. The mushrooms were fresh and plentiful, but they skimped on the pepperoni. I thought the sauce and the crust had good flavor. It was $15 for a large, two topping pizza.
